The Intelligent Home System

The diagram below shows the current intentions with respect to the redesign of the IHS. The HLP is the memory and reasoning system, the AMC is the measurement and response system, the user interface is provided for occupier communications with another direct interface to the HLP for engineering purposes. The listening and response system is provided to carry out any preprocessing of audio input and output from the environment which may also be used by the HLP to change control options.

IHS Block Diagram

The main new component of this diagram is the listening and response system which will need to be designed from scratch. The HLP, although currently absent, has been active in the past and the older system will help to inform the new design along with the new requirements lists. The user interface will require updating as will the environmental sensing and control devices. However, the aim is to bring the new IHS into existence by utilising the existing system where possible so that the current AMC functions are always available and new functionality is added when available. In other words, the AMC functions must remain active throughout the new IHS design and implementation phases.
