Knowledge Resource Consultation
The Target Clients
The intended beneficiaries of this service are:
- The senior manager/director of a small company or organisation
that is building a business or operation
- The manager of a strategic area of a larger company or
organisation
Aims of the Consultation
- To create an improved understanding of the potential risks and
benefits associated with the knowledge resource
- To encourage a fresh look at operations using the knowledge
resource to provide a new perspective and insight
The Method
The method will be tailored to suit the needs of each particular
client.
However, the core approach will consist of the following elements:
- An initial introductory meeting with the senior manager(s)
concerned will provide the context for the study and help to focus the
work done.
- A further discussion with the senior manager(s) will clarify the
business activities, its methods of business and the staff and
resources that it uses to deliver its product or service.
- A short tour of the operational areas, possibly including input
from key members of staff during the tour will help to clarify the
knowledge application areas.
- A final meeting with the senior manager(s) will provide an
opportunity to deal with questions arising from the earlier study
components and also provide an opportunity to present any potentially
useful knowledge options.
- An off site review will allow the creation of a brief report that
addresses the issues listed in the outcome. This report will be
delivered to the senior manager(s) within 8 working days of the
consultation.
The Outcome
The outcome of this relatively brief consultation will address the
main
issues concerning the knowledge resource and provide contextual
understanding
of how the knowledge resource contributes of strategic operations (as
far as
these can be uncovered during a relatively brief consultation). There
will be
several main components to the outcome including:
- A sketch of the knowledge resource including its strengths and
weaknesses
- A summary of the main risk areas associated with the knowledge
resource
- A proposal to improve the effectiveness of the knowledge resource
- Suggestions for further study and analysis of the knowledge
resource
The Benefits
- Organisations can begin to take measures to reduce the risks
associated with the knowledge resource.
- Organisations can start to maximise the benefits that can be
derived from the knowledge resource.
- Managers will be able to consider the knowledge resource when
taking strategic business decisions and planning major business changes.
